Link Building and SEO mistakes you must avoid

December 10, 2008 · Posted in Blogging, Internet Marketing, Link Building, Traffic Generation · 6 Comments
Hey Readers, First of all I would like to thank you for showing this much interest in my posts. Here I am with another post as per my knowledge.

Many of us (including me) are sometimes doing some silly mistakes which disturbs google and it refuses some of our pages from its index.
So from my experiene here I am listing some mistakes that you should avoid.

Link Building Mistakes you should avoid

  • Avoid link exchange with bad neighbourhood. Because as per google, your PR is also depending on your link with your neighbour. So always be careful for what you are linking and where you are linked.
  • Do not waste your efforts in automated link submission. It will never work. So better put your efforts in genuine link building.
  • Always be careful when you put reciprocal link on your blog. As I described in my previous post it may harm your pages’ PR.
  • Dont ever think of spamming. I can assure you that by spamming google will kick you out soon from its index.
  • Be careful while you buy a link. Do not buy link for 1 or 2 months, buy a link atleast for 6 months or 1 year that will surely help you. Also do some analysis that is it surely going to profit your PR? If the answer is above 70% (my view) then you can surely go for that. :)

SEO Mistakes you should avoid

  • Do not waste time in researching the Meta tags. Just put few basic meta tags which indicated the interest of your blog.
  • Do not forget to put title and description for all the pages of your blog. Title is the most important element of your page as it is the first thing seen by the google when it crawls the page. Always give unique title to the page, dont just copy and paste. ;)
  • Never change the title of the pages which are already doing well in google. One time I did it for my one of the best performing page and I swear I suffered like anything to get that page back in the same position.
  • Avoid so many useless links on the page. As I have described earlier they are going to take some share from your PR.
  • Also make sure that you nofollow login, registration pages as well as header and footer links.
  • Always do proper formatting of the content. Try to use strong or italic tags as and when needed for content to look better. Search engines also consider this.
  • Try to avoid excessive use of ajax, javascript and flash for any kind of content display. Yes you can give facility to the users using these things but dont involve them with content of your blog.

Above are my views as per my experience. Please do not hasitate to share your views.

October Earnings for this Blog: $133

First of all thanks to all my readers.

My blog has started growing and this is the result of that. Because of my link building strategies I have achieved this and hope to achieve this again and again.

I am planning to grow slowly and steadily. But the reason why you are not seeing updates for last couple of days is bit personal (Some family health issues). Also I am setting up my new offshore development centre in India.

I introduced kontera to this blog in middle of this month. Now let me give you some small breakup of my earnings

Google Adsense: $127
Kontera: $6

This month total: $133
Previous month total: $100

Total Earnings: $233

I know my earnings are so low than the other biggies in this niche. But sure I am trying my best to provide good content and earn more. ;)

Understanding the adsense related terms

October 27, 2008 · Posted in Blogging, Google Adsense, Traffic Generation · 10 Comments
As I was suffering some years back some of the new users and some of my readers are suffering for the same thing. What is that?

What is the meaning of the terms like CPM, CPC, CPA, eCPM, eCPC, eCPA and CTR?

So today I have decided to explain you main terms so that you get better idea for google adsense.

Following are the terms which are most used in the online advertising networks.

What is CPM?

CPM – Cost Per Thousand (Here “M” is the roman numeral for thousand)

This is the thing where advertiser wish to pay for per thousand impression of his ads. Let say advertiser wants to pay $100 for 1 CPM for an ad, this means that he will pay $0.10 for each time his ad is shown on any publisher. When the ad is shown thousand times, advertiser pays $100 to the ad agency.

What is eCPM?

eCPM – Effective Cost Per Thousand

This means what will be the publisher’s payout if the entire inventory it has is CPM. They use the eCPM value for inventory’s effectiveness.

What is CPC?

CPC – Cost Per Click

There are some advertisers who prefer to pay only when their ad is clicked by some reader on the publisher’s site. Usually they pay in the range of $0.40 to $5.00 for one click.

What is eCPC?

eCPC – Effective Cost Per Click

Same as the eCPM, This means what will be the publisher’s payout if the entire inventory it has is CPC.

What is CTR?

CTR – Click Through Rate

This value will show that what is the actual click through rate for an ad after each 100 impressions.

Please correct me if I am wrong somewhere. Also share with me this kind of terms as this is really helpful to my readers.

What is better? : Reciprocal Link or Backlink?

October 16, 2008 · Posted in Blogging, General, Link Building, Traffic Generation · 11 Comments
Many of my readers who are little new to blogging world asked me a very important question. “What is better? Reciprocal Link or Backlink?”. Yes this is really an interesting question and before giving an answer to this question lets first see the difference between reciprocal link and backlink.

Reciprocal Link : These links are two way. That means your link on some blog in return to that blog’s link on your blog.

Backlink : Backlink is the link on the other blog pointing to your blog. It can be reciprocal or one way link.

Now the answer to the question:

In my opinion I would prefer a backlink instead of reciprocal. (Yes, I would never ignore the good reciprocal link.)
Let say if my blog has a page with PR3 and i have 1 link of other page of my blog on this page. So my current page’s PR is now transferable to the link of other page.

So that link will get 100% of the transferrable PR. Now let say if I put one reciprocal link on the page with PR3, so now there are 2 links on that page and the transferable PR will be shared among those two. So now both have 50% share in the transferable PR. And I am loosing the share of 50%. Here note that you have not altered your share it is grabbed by some other link.

So what I suggest is if you are offered a one way link and a reciprocal link go for a one way link. Yes you can also go for a reciprocal link if it is really a good reciprocal.

Do not hessitate to share your views on this and also correct me if I am wrong somewhere.
